July is just whipping by isn’t it? This month we started to use our weekends to take advantage of some much needed R&R, instead of catching up on the latest forum postings. We are beginning to feel refreshed and energized. It’s amazing what a little sleep can do for a weary body.

Too many times entrepreneurs put in 12 or more hours in a day. “It was easier to work for someone else. At least my last boss wasn’t as tough on me as my new boss is!” Did you ever stop to think what kind of toll this is taking on you physically? Mentally? Your family? If you continue to go at the rate you are going, burnout will find you. Just like that officer will find you when you park in the tow away zone at the supermarket. Maybe it will not happen today, but make a habit of it and you are sure to get your car towed.

Why did you want to work for yourself? Was it for the benefits? Ah…what benefits? Was it for the hours? You’re kidding, right? Then it had to be for the pay! Ok, you’re getting warm. Being in business for yourself means that you are your sole provider, but your ultimate goal should be to work smarter, not harder. Keep that thought in mind the next time you are burning the mid-night oil.

Warmly,

Success…Elusive or Attainable?
By Dale Noles

Success – the 4 Letter Word
Success is often contrived as being a taboo word. Every one has heard about it, but no one really discusses it. I have met few individuals who understand exactly what success is. Most think that success is money in the bank; while in some cases this may be true. The reality is money never bought anyone happiness.

What does it mean?
The definition of success is someone who has achieved success; procurement of fame or being prosperous; or achieving something that was planned or desired. If you examine each attribute of the definition you will see that this may be where the confusion of the word was birthed.

Double-Talk
Someone is a success when they achieve success. If this was the only explanation that I was given as to what success was, I would think that the person who told me would have no clue what success is. In short, I would think that they were full of malarkey. It sounds like a bunch of double-talk!

This definition refers to a state of mind. To be successful, you must think and act like you are successful. Once you are in the “success” state of mind, those around you, your clients, your co-workers, and even you will notice that success is making the perception of success a reality.

I’m Ready For My Close-Up
The procurement of fame and fortune is the common definition of success. For this reason, success seems elusive. It takes time and money to make money. It takes getting noticed and living in the spotlight to attain fame. This kind of success can happen over night. The sad reality is that it usually lasts that long unless you are successful at being successful.

The definition implies that once you have figured out what success is, sought after it and achieved it, you will enter the success hall of fame. You no longer have to worry about being successful because you are already there. You made it! You are the big cheese! Any second now, you are going to have a handful of reporters busting down your door to do an interview and take your picture for the daily news. No wait, this should make national news! Don’t rely on this form of success, she can be an enticing mistress and she can lead to your demise. She can hurt you as well as those around you.

The Success Blueprint
If you have goals set at an achievable level and are hard pressed at reaching your goals, you will be successful! This form of success refers to achieving something that was well thought out or was desired enough to make you want to make it happen. This success is the kind of success that builds relationships and enhances your life.

If you can define what makes you successful into terms that have the greatest impact on your quality of life, your success will resound in a positive way. For example; success is being able to spend more time with your spouse and family, or success is having the freedom to golf with your buddies once every month at a really nice club, or success is being able to help out your loved ones when times are tough, or maybe success is finding out that working for yourself has a profound effect in your overall health. If you determine what gives you the greatest joy and are able to make it happen, that, my friend, is success!

Paint me a Picture
Clarity of whether or not you are a success comes when you can take a step back and examine the entire picture. A painter’s canvas is not a strip of cloth stretched across a few pieces of wood but rather an idea becoming reality. If you focus on a two-inch by two-inch part of your life all you see is the nebulous paint in that tiny square. You have to back away to view the whole painting. That little square is not the painting itself but rather an integral part of the whole painting.

I challenge you to examine what it is you want out of your life. What will bring you the most joy? What will improve your quality of life? What will it take to attain it? Answer these questions and map out a plan to achieve it. My friend, you are a success, believe it and live it!

The 7 Keys to Getting More Clients Than You Can Handle
Even If You Hate Marketing and Selling

By Michael Port

Clients often ask me how I built a six figure income working as an independent professional in less than 10 months. I narrowed it down to 7 simple steps. Seven simple internal and intuitive attitude shifts… and the exact action items that will kick your business up a notch.

These effective and powerful steps won’t come as any mystery to you, but if you take them to heart, they will absolutely and emphatically build your business naturally and authentically.

My advice to you (from someone who has struggled and been exactly where you are now) is to love, embrace and believe in yourself. Because I know how easy and realistic it is for you to become a successful solo professional.

Combine these simple insights with the gifts you have within yourself to create an abundant, joyful and prosperous business and life.

Seven Keys to Booking Yourself Solid

Key 1: Focus On Solutions no matter what you say, think or do. Take the attention off of yourself, your business and your services. Every second of every day stay focused on clear, specific and detailed solutions, benefits and advantages that appeal to your prospects.

Clearly define the root of your prospects’ problems and needs. Then only focus on those solutions. There does seem to be some universal confusion on the definition of a solution these days… or a slip of the mind, perhaps? Solutions are not technical, scientific, mechanical or procedural. They are simple ideas… profound, deep and impactful.

If someone wants to lose weight, solutions are not…
* Dietary guidelines
* Exercises
* Nutritional supplements

The core need of losing weight is much deeper. They really want to…
* Feel more self confident
* Feel incredibly attractive
* Attract their perfect mate

Now you’re talking their language. The more benefits you uncover, the quicker you will start to attract new clients. People buy good feelings, news ways of thinking and solutions to their problems.

Key 2: Seek Out Ideal Clients for maximum joy, prosperity and abundance. Think about the human you are when you are performing optimally at your peak…when you are with all the people who inspire and energize you.

Make a long list of the characteristics these people have because they are your ideal clients. (p.s. clients and friends are interchangeable expressions)

I used to work with anyone who had a pulse and a checkbook. Living the red velvet rope policy of ideal clients increases my productivity… happiness… and more clients than I can handle are being referred to me. I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s true!
Clients are like family to me. Don’t get me wrong, I lived through a period of intense and painful negative energy worrying about those challenging client relationships. It exhausted me and took me away from accomplishing the highest good for my clients. It was impossible for me to be productive, effective or successful in this environment.

Now with your list of inspiring people, I give you permission to release any dead wood in your calendar. If it feels scary, trust the next five steps to energetically fill those spaces.

Key 3: Embrace Your Authentic Self and toss out the societally accepted version of you. Yes! I’m serious. No one likes the IBM stiff blue suit that follows every rule. We’re attracted to that perky, authentic confident soul who says it like it is and filters nothing!

Think about how radiant and attractive you are when you are with your best friends. You are spontaneous, free and genuine because of the trust within these close relationships.

Our real liberated, confident empowered self is the true self that only a select few inner circle friends are exposed to. Let me tell you… if you let your quirky, silly side shine… you’ll experience far greater self-assurance and an immediate client attraction. Sound easy? It is! Works every time like a charm. Test it for yourself.

Key 4: Branding is not just for Superbowl advertisers. If you haven’t identified your natural skill, talent, interest or expertise… or if you’re not clearly and consistently expressing and defining yourself… chances are your clients can’t either.

Most people are afraid of niches or specifity because they think it may limit their success or potential. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Ambiguity and uncertainty translates into insecurity. Personal branding is uniquely you. Own it… love it… express it! (oh, and by the way… once you’ve mastered your niche… then you get to expand and do anything else you want!!!)

Key 5: Articulating What You Do is the key that connects your vibrant, branded and authentic self to the world. Most people are afraid to express themselves in a clear and powerful way.

Speak boldly, clearly and with purpose. This is the fastest way to eliminate suspicion, guesswork or speculation. Prospects want to know the exact benefits they will experience and action they should take. Articulate this you’ll have paved the way for a “yes”.

Remember you won’t appeal to everyone. And, that’s the beautiful thing!!! What you will do is powerfully impact your ideal clients in a compelling way every time you clearly communicate the vibrant you.

Key 6: The Simple Selling Process is a cinch once you embrace Key 1 (solutions baby!). If you remember this, you’ll never have to sell again.

When you think in terms of solutions and problems solved, clients will beg to work with you. You are a consultant… a lifelong advisor. When you have fundamental solutions to help others… it’s your moral imperative to show and tell as many people as possible. You are changing lives!

Inquire…
* What is your goal?
Show…
* What the benefits will be when they reach their goal
Ask…
* Would you like a partner to help you with that?

Gain a commitment. Ask yourself, would this person’s life be fuller, happier and better-off with me in it? Now, let your light shine and give an action plan.

Key 7: Self Promotion Is Easy And Fun The internet and modern technology is a beautiful thing, but too many people get caught up in their “web site”. Don’t waste one more second on any marketing that is ineffective, inefficient or that you just can’t measure.

Master the tried and true techniques that will book you instantly, Network, mastermind and get synergistic relationships working for you. There’s nothing less effective than a solo pro… and a single mind. Colloborate for the benefit of all!

If this seems to vague, open the phone book, look up professionals with similar clients and prospective audiences, make one phone call today and introduce yourself and the benefits of your services. Now make one five minute phone call every day. If you’re not comfortable calling a stranger, talk to every friend, family member and colleague you know and ask for names of professionals in the fields you are seeking. Soon you’ll have a growing list of warm names to call.

The second easiest way to book yourself solid is to use client referrals. First, ask every client how happy they are with your services. If the answer is positive, then ask who else they know in a similar situation that could benefit from... (list those benefits!). If they aren’t satisfied, you just bought yourself a second chance. Consider yourself lucky.

Time prevailing there are so many more ways to Book Yourself Solid, we could go on for weeks and weeks on end. My recommendation, start with the basics here and write me at Michael@michaelport.com with additional questions, concerns, clarifications, epiphanies or revelations you have.

Remember you have the ultimate solutions to build an abundant business. Express the brilliance of you and let out the silly one too. Anything less is criminal.

So let's get down to it and book yourself solid!

Ask the VAs

Question:I am up to my eyeballs in work and have my fingers in so many things. I just don’t know what to give or how to give up my to do list to a VA. What does someone in my position do?
Andrea – Business and Executive Coach

Answer: We know it’s difficult, but the first thing you need to do is sit down and write out your to do list. Then break that list down into two parts:

  1. Tasks you know you have to accomplish on your own and
  2. Tasks that can be accomplished by someone else.

VAs provide freedom. As far as giving up tasks to a VA, as Nike says, “Just Do It.” Start simply. For example, have your VA take your stack of business cards and enter them into a contacts database. Once that task is complete have your VA add your client assessment form to your website and continue on down the list.

When you choose the right VA for you, you will have a partner in your business. The VA will begin to know what you need before you even realize you need it.

Product Review:
Spy Sweeper by Webroot:
Spyware and Adware Removal
Scale of 1 – 5:
4 ¾
Becki Jaspin-Noles

Over the past few months I have become quite adept at manually removing the endless amounts of spyware and adware received on what seems like a daily basis. For about a year, Virtual Accuracy has used Spybot Search and Destroy as its main spyware/adware removal system. While the program is good, it seems to leave something behind each and every time it is used.

A few weeks ago, I had enough. The computer was crawling (brand new by the way) and the pop-ups were endless (even with two pop-up blockers running in the background), so I decided to go on the hunt. I started with a simple Internet search about spyware and adware removal and one tool was recommended time and time again – Spy Sweeper by Webroot. Prior to visiting the webroot website, I decided to check out the trusty old PC Magazine. Wouldn’t you know they won an Editor’s Choice Award? Of all spyware/adware removal products tested, they ranked the highest for ease of use and removal. Ok, I was sold. I didn’t even download the free trial version, I went to pay right away and let me tell you I wasn’t disappointed at all. During the first scan, Spy Sweeper found 65 spyware/adware pieces and 524 traces of spyware/adware. After the spyware/adware was removed, my computer ran 100% faster and acted superbly. I highly recommend this product for your spyware/adware removal. You can download a free trial copy (full version, good for 30 days).

Reality check, no one program is perfect. In fact, I still have one piece of adware on my system that is giving me headaches and have yet to find out where the little bugger is hiding. But know that the “bad boy” is getting out of there, sooner than later.

A Deadly Game of Poker

Six, retired Floridians, play high stakes poker in the condo clubhouse.

A member of the group, Meierwitz, loses $5000 on a single hand, clutches his chest and drops dead at the table.

Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five continue playing standing up.

Finkelstein looks around and asks, "So, who's gonna' tell his wife?"

They draw straws. Goldberg picks the short one. They tell him to be discreet, be gentle, not to make a bad situation any worse.

"Discreet? I'm the most discreet person you'll ever meet. Discretion is my middle name. Leave it to me"

Goldberg goes over to the Meierwitz apartment, knocks on the door. The wife answers and asks what he wants.

Goldberg declares, "Your husband just lost $5000 playing poker, and is afraid to come home."
"Tell him to drop dead!" says the wife.

"I'll go tell him." says Goldberg.
