Becki Noles I moved with Dale to South Carolina from Pennsylvania in 1997 and immediately fell in love with the Upstate of South Carolina. The Southern hospitality was definitely an experience. With the hustle and bustle of the busy city quickly forgotten, we decided that we would make this "home" on a permanent basis. I was employed as a leasing consultant for a prestigious apartment complex in Harrisburg, PA owned and operated by the largest property management company in the US. In late 1996 I accepted the position of Junior Acquisition Analyst and moved to Greenville, SC in January 1997, with Dale. Due to corporate layoffs soon after the move, I was forced to find alternative employment. After leaving the management group, I accepted a position as an executive assistant with the corporate office of an international restaurant chain. In this position, I quickly learned the ins and outs of purchasing food products for five distinct and unique restaurants, as well as providing stellar executive assistance. After another bought of corporate layoffs (getting the picture here?), my desire was to work with a stable organization who realized my talents and could utilize them for their benefit. Soon after the layoff from the restaurant group, my desire became a reality. I started with a large non-profit organization in early 1998 as a Marketing Assistant, providing marketing support and executive assistance to the CEO as well as publicity and public relations coordination. My "job" was extremely fulfilling and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. After two years, I was promoted to Executive Office Manager and began to handle personnel, HR and management functions in addition to my publicity and public relations coordination duties. Also in 1998, Virtual Accuracy was born. Virtual Accuracy started as a simple vision...to provide administrative, executive and technical support to businesses and mobile professionals. This venture started out as a way to supplement income and was never intended to be a full-time endeavor. But there were other plans, unknown to us at the time... During my time at the non-profit organization, Dale and I were trying to conceive a child and we were unable to, so we looked into adoption. Kaleb Asher Cadwallader Noles burst into our lives on January 28, 2002. Immediately after his birth in Lancaster, PA he was airlifted by the "Life Lion" to Hershey, PA. Kaleb was born with gastroschisis (intestines on the outside of his body) and a few other issues. I stayed in Pennsylvania with Kaleb for 8 weeks while Dale returned to South Carolina to work. When I returned home, I went back to work on a part-time basis (25 hours a week) and strived to make Virtual Accuracy the success I knew it could be. I now had a reason to be at home. Soon after my return to South Carolina, I was given another promotion to Director of Marketing and Guest Relations, all the while still handling the publicity and public relations coordination. Then in 2003 I left the corporate world and pursued my dream of entrepreneurship on a full-time basis. In mid-2004, the non-profit organization called me back and asked me to take on the position of Director of Marketing and Guest Relations again with a maximum of 12 hours per week in office and the remaining hours via my virtual office. I took them up on the offer and am grateful and excited to be a part of a great organization. I love being a virtual assistant. It is exciting and everyday is different and new. I love knowing that I don't need to rely on the corporate world anymore to sustain me. I continue within the corporate world because I actually ENJOY the work. It suits me and fits in with my lifestyle right now. Who knows how long the corporate world will be with me because as you read above, "there were other plans, unknown to us at the time......" |
